Lorne House
This renovation to a mid century beach shack had Alan Powell P/L as Design Architect, Anne Hindley as Project Architect and Interior Designer, with Interior furniture and styling by Hindley & Co. The spectacular location affords sweeping views over the ocean, enhanced by full height windows wrapping around the corners of the building. The form is conceived as two pavilions linked by a glazed through-view that is glimpsed on approach and intensifies as the building is entered. The kitchen and bathrooms are minimal and architectural, in order to amplify the sense of tranquillity and escape experienced by the highly driven academic clients. The furnishings reference the mid century roots of the original house, and the feel is light, airy and peaceful.
